Life Jacket Loaner Program Sites
Now accepting applications for new Life Jacket Loaner Program Sites. The easiest way to ensure a child's safety on the water is to make sure they wear a life jacket that fits. But children's growth spurts or last minute changes to the roster of invited guests do not always make that easy. That is where you come in! Do you know a marina or local waterfront business that could be a part of the BoatUS Foundation for Boating Safety and Clean Water's Life Jacket Loaner Program? To apply to become a Life Jacket Loaner Program site, for more information on the program or on the life jackets laws in your state, please visit www.BoatUS.com/Foundation/LJLP.To apply to become a Life Jacket Loaner Program site, for more information on the program or on the life jackets laws in your state, please visit www.BoatUS.com/Foundation/LJLP.

Brunswick-McCoy- National
McCoy’s story underscored one of the main points of his presentation. He pointed to such acts of sharing and camaraderie as among the best ways to expand boating to attract new boaters, by allowing people to experience the joy of boating firsthand. In short, McCoy urged delegates to take someone aboard their boat the next time they are on the water; especially a youth, to plant the water seed at an early age.
Brunswick has long been in the forefront of supporting boater education. For example, Veronica Floyd, Brunswick’s legislative consultant, has played a major role in promoting and advancing efforts in this area by the National Safe Boating Council, with the U.S. Coast Guard, to promote the WEAR IT! campaign. This ongoing effort encourages all who participate in activities on the water to be safe and responsible. It includes wearing a life jacket, always being alert and aware while operating any type of vessel, taking an approved boater education course and being informed on what to do in case of an accident.
Further, Brunswick has advocated that adults and children should be educated about life jackets. Indeed, while Brunswick has long believed that adult boaters can best determine if their boating situation warrants the use of a life jacket, the company does back mandatory usage in certain situations. For example, Brunswick has supported state and federal mandates requiring children aged 12 and under to wear life jackets while on board and on deck a vessel that is underway. The company also supports mandated life jacket usage for those riding personal watercraft, due to the unique nature of that boating experience.

Safe Boating Week Part 1- Vero Beach
General - As you know we now have a NEW Bulletin Board as you come in the building on the porch. I have taken the liberty of posting some data regarding Safe Boating Week. I would like to use this board to post details about the event and also meet with folks who are interested at the FNS. It should be a little quieter outside.
BLOG – I have created a blogspot (Vero Beach Safe Boating Week-vbsbw) that I will be using to keep all details, notes, pictures, the plan , the members involved, the schedule and so on……http://vbsbw.blogspot.com/
Announcements - Next week I will post a sign up sheet to get people involved. I would like for Judy to talk up Safe Boating Week when she makes announcements at the FNS, henceforth. I also plan to talk about it at every Executive Meeting and naturally at the General Meetings, until the event.
The Big Day - Don Helm and I have talked briefly and we think we should make Saturday May 21, 2011 the big event day with the squadron et al. Don will be doing hamburgers and hot dogs for the participants( volunteers that help with the events) and will need help working the grill.

WEAR IT!
Welcome to the 2011 North American Safe Boating Campaign! As National Safe Boating Week (May 21–27, 2011) and the season approaches, we are preparing for another campaign to spread the message of safe and responsible boating. This year, we will continue to educate the boating community about life jacket wear and the options that are available when it comes to comfortable and lightweight life jackets (Life Jacket Information). We are also working closely with our partner organizations to create a larger grassroots network and create a more consistent campaign message. We are hoping these collaborative efforts will increase awareness about the importance of always wearing life jackets while on the water.

Safe Boating Week Planning
Not sure how we do this but would like to suggest that we consider a FUND Raiser, or some external event, to help supplement the VBPS budget shortfall. All ideas are encouraged. I am recommending that this effort falls with the NEW MEMBERS.
The seasoned members are going after the grant dollars and I will be happy to head up that effort. My focus will be for the VBPS Safe Boating Week Program (May 21–27, 2011). Some of my thoughts were written on the white board at the VBPS, last week. Some of you may have read it at our Poker Run Lunch. I propose we get a planning team to assist Don Helm and I to make this a "VBPS Grand Affair" by Vero's Finest.
Regards,
Bob Scully

VBPS Safe Boating Week Planning
Team VBPS,
I have drafted a game plan for the VBPS Safe Boating Week on the white board at the VBPS. The info I got this morning is directly in line with the proposed plan and I would like support making this happen so we can get that $4000 carrot being offered up for grabs. Application deadline is April 1 but I would like to recommend we get our in early. That said I would propose those interested meet at the VBPS building to brainstorm, define objectives, lay out a timeline and assign individuals tasks to complete. Regards,Bob Scully XO
